In 1968, the first of what would later become a chain of Ben’s stores was opened in Daytona Beach. You will often hear references to Daytona as it is the “mother ship” store.  It is the central re-supply shipping location for all of our stores and is next door to our corporate offices and meeting/classroom.  Manager Kip Jolly joined the team in 1998 as a counterperson and became manager in 2001.  In 2009 he took on the added challenge of managing our Deland store.  Craig Ballew and Frank Sartoretti double-team the area as outside salespersons. Craig came on board way back in 1982 as his first PBE job. Frank joined the Ben’s team in 2008.

When expertise in specialty coatings such as CPC, Amercoat and Matthews is required, Daytona calls in Dave Simons, our industrial account representative.  If they get stumped, Dave’s got the answer!

The Daytona store has 5 support team members as well as 3 that run our warehouse. Warehouse manager Vince Clark has his hands full with truckloads of product coming in and almost daily shipments going out to every store. And with all of the rapid movement in and out, the inventory has to be correct too!

Next door are our corporate offices.  Check out the Corporate page for information, phone numbers and office hours.

Kip currently serves as manager for both the Daytona and Deland stores.  In 2013 he was promoted to General Manager over all stores.  He is the husband of Melissa Jolly, our controller and accounts payable manager.  Born and raised in Hartwell, GA, he received a degree in Industrial Engineering from the Southern College of Technology in 1985.  He started with us in 1998 as an inside sales associate in Deland and transferred to Daytona in 1999.  He became Daytona manager in 2001 and added Deland in 2009.  In addition to that responsibility, Kip has undertaken many special corporate tasks as well; he is our resident computer and communications tech and has become a key personality in the success of Ben’s.  In 2003 he received the Ben’s Award for Leadership and in 2012, the Core Value Award.  In his spare time he likes to play golf.  Kip and Melissa enjoy the blessings of two sons, Ethan and Seth.

Rick Emerson
remerson@bensps.com
Rick is the brother of CEO Dennis Emerson and also New Smyrna manager Doug Emerson.  He joined his brothers already at Ben’s in 1975.  Prior to that he had been an assistant to a general contractor, who later helped build three Ben’s stores.  He has roots in both Colorado and North Carolina, but the family ultimately wound up in Daytona Beach.  Rick started in delivery, but in those early days everyone did pretty much everything.  Today he serves as an inside sales associate at the counter and in 2007, received the Ben’s Award for Dedication.  He feels that everyone there works together as a team.  Outside of work he enjoys woodworking and projects that help upgrade his home.

Tamie Ordway
Tamie serves as an Inside Sales Associate and is one of our most experienced team members in that position.  She started in August 1990 making deliveries as a Distribution Specialist and moved to the counter and telephones in 2001.  She was originally from Methuen, Mass. and moved to Florida in 1984.  Tamie has 3 children, one daughter and two sons.  You can’t tell by looking at her, but she has one grandson too!

Mike Culhane
mculhane@bensps.com
Mike serves us as an inside sales associate, manning the telephones and the counter.  He has been with us since 2007.  Mike started in our Deland store, but in July 2012 he transferred to Daytona to help fill a vacancy there.  Originally from New Jersey, he moved to Florida to get out of the snow and into the sunshine.  He likes the people he works with and the family atmosphere of Ben’s.  In his free time he enjoys biking, photography and travel.

Fran Wofford
Fran joined the Ben’s team in Aug. 2011 as a Distribution Specialist. She actually has quite a business resume, having done medical billing, managed a rehab clinic, and she even owned a landscaping company.  She moved to Florida in 2000, having lived in both Louisiana and Alabama for most of her life.  She enjoys being outdoors, meeting the customers and the time she spends with other team members.  At home she enjoys needlepoint, yard work and spending time with friends.

Ryan joined the Ben’s team in July 2013 as warehouse manager and comes to us with a depth of experience.   Bio coming soon.

Ben Coursen
In the past, Ben has been both a truck driver and a warehouse supervisor.  So he has a perfect fit at Ben’s as he works some in the warehouse, but mostly is responsible for almost daily routes to each of our stores in Florida, bringing them what they need to restock from sales.  He hits the road while most of us are still in bed.  Ben is not the Ben, as some ask.  That Ben was Ben Kimball.  Originally from Ohio, Ben’s family moved to Florida when he was 14.  He joined the Ben’s team in 2005, and enjoys the people he works with.  He has become a valuable asset to the company.  In 2008, when he was out for a couple of months after heart bypass surgery, everyone pitched in to help take up the slack so that we could get him back.  In 2010, Ben received the Ben’s Award for Outstanding Team Member.  In his spare time, Ben likes to ride his motorcycle and go camping.
